We are currently experiencing a heat wave. Wait.. Can we still talk about heat wave when it’s been 3 weeks? I’m not sure. But what I know is that we are all struggling. Big time. My current state will explain my choices regarding the outfits I picked for this month, regarding the colour palette and the cuts.
July. Summer. Vacay…. Who doesn’t love July? It always flies by, especially if you spend a couple of weeks on a beach or sightseeing. As far as I’m concerned, I’ll be working but I don’t really mind, because I hope think that the tough times at work are done, people will be more relaxed and I’ve heard that we’ll get plenty of sun, so I’ll make the most of it. Can’t wait! (Actually, I can’t wait for August cause I booked some time off then, but I’m trying the Coué method…). Now let’s get some fashion inspiration.
Last week, the Tony Awards took place in New York and if I’m not doing a Best Dressed post, I know that my sister will be pretty mad at me (she is a huge fan of musicals and was quite happy with the Tony for best performance by an actor – she was rooting for the charming Andrew Garfield). So here we go!
For the past few weeks, it’s been super duper hot. It’s been so hot that it has been barely bearable. You know when the temperature is so high that you have absolutely zero energy? There is no fresh air, even at night, so you don’t get any sleep? And you wake up exhausted? But you still have to get up and go to work? That’s been my routine for a month.
Another tough part is: how to dress? Because all you want to do is laying down by a pool or on the beach in a bikini. But you can’t. If you want to be able to do that, you gotta go to work (as Britney would say: You want to live fancy? You better work bitch). And unless you work as a lifeguard – which I’m not – you have to dress appropriately. Now let’s see what we can do 🙂
You can play with the colours, the prints and the length: pencil skirts, a-line skirts, midi skirts and mini skirts. Pair your skirt with a button-down shirt and you’re good to go. If we don’t wear our skirts when it’s 100 degrees out, I don’t know when we will.
One of the trends this season is denim. Again?! Yes, but this time it’s all about dark denim revival. The trend was proposed by various designers, including Tom Ford, Calvin Klein, Max Mara and Alexander McQueen.
I don’t know about you, but when I look at these looks I think about my (awkward) teenage years. More specifically, it makes me think of the early 2000s when some of my favorite celebs rocked dark denim – sometimes from head to toe – but always oh so perfectly: Aaliyah, Britney, Sarah Michelle Gellar, … I probably tried to copy them without much success.
