Urban Idealist: SS16 Trend

Hey there,

With this post, I’ll start a new series: the SS16 trends.  I already did that last year, and I thought it’d be nice to do it again for this season.  I think it’s always interesting to see if we can translate what we see on the runways into “real life”.

The trends I’ll write about are the ones reported by InStyle: Urban Idealist, New Bohemian (and if you want to know more about boho chic, you can check this out), English Rose, Eternal Optimist, Cyber Punk, and Woman on Top.  I’ll start with Urban Idealist, and then I’ll see 😉  If I (or you) find other noteworthy trends, I’ll put them in the series too.

So, what’s an “Urban Idealist”?  Obviously Urban means  “in, relating to, or characteristic of a city or town” (New Oxford American Dictionary), and Idealist refers to “a person who is guided more by ideals than by practical considerations” (New Oxford American Dictionary).

InStyle defines this character as:

“This woman is up on the news, above the trends, and too busy affecting change to respond to any inane meeting requests. You can tell by that casual twist in her style (the designer sandals are a dead giveaway) that she doesn’t lose touch with what really matters in her life—getting upstate this weekend to plant tomatoes and to finally tackle that Garth Risk Hallberg novel.”

How do I see it?  She’s strong.  She’s a no-bulls**t kind of girl.  I see a minimalist style.  She’s in control.  She’s an adult (it’s worth mentioning, because adulting is haaaaaard).  I see Angelina Jolie.  And Jennifer Garner.  I see luxury textures.  I see elegance.  Chic.  Timeless.  I see an active woman.

How do you get the look?  According to InStyle:

“Call on no-fuss staples. Pants as roomy as pajamas (call them palazzos to sound fancy) look terrific with a tailored jacket, and nothing beats a suede wrap skirt for versatility. Wear one with a slightly slouchy blouse while navigating your city safari, or for the perfect day-to-evening-to-sleeping ensemble, just stay in your sassiest lace bedclothes à la Balenciaga or Givenchy.”

So I checked out my favorite brands, and here are the pieces I found that could totally work for the Urban Idealist in you 🙂

I’ll start with one of my all-time favorite: Essentiel-Antwerp

I found a cute oversized sweater, 3/4 wide leg pants, oversized cotton kaftan, fit pants:, and a leather trapeze bag, and a braided faux-leather handbag:
